Peregrinations by Nicolo Sertorio

through May 12

Peregrinations captures movement in substance as well as time and space.

This series of long exposures taken while traveling in different parts of the world.  reveals memories and feelings that are allowed to come through abstraction which removes the physicality of place.

The fortuitous element of randomness removes the photographer’s sociocultural projections into the image, while the resulting negation of identifiable references removes the viewer’s projections and asks for an emotional rather than rational response.

Nicolo Sertorio will speak about his work on April 21at 6:00 pm.

Saturday, April 21, Artist reception from 4:00 to 7:00 with artist talk at 6:00.

Dark Sharks/Light Rays through October. Karen Glaser here for first Friday.

PHOTO hosted a First Friday reception to large crowds and the following day Karen Glaser spoke at an Artist’s Reception. We were thrilled to have Karen attend the opening, all the way from Chicago. Her Dark Sharks/Light Rays is the first exhibit we have shown from an out-of-town artist. This unique underwater imagery was shown at the Griffin Museum of Photography last year. In addition to Karen’s photographs, Lisa Jacobs’ handcrafted ceramics pieces are on display. They reflect an underwater feel that compliments the photos. Both artists’ work is exceptional. Show closes October 29. DON’T MISS IT!

The Oakland Art Murmur on August 3 included PHOTO’s opening night for Charles Anselmo’s exhibit of Cuba. Deconstructions: La Habana is the name of the series showing the faded richness of old buildings in Havana as they crumble. Anselmo has visited Havana many times in search of these fascinating images.
