A Benefit for San Francisco Botanical Garden

Thanks to all the photographers who entered.

• Best of Show Award: $1000

• PHOTO is part of Oakland Art Murmur located in Oakland’s Uptown Arts
District. The exhibit will be seen by thousands of visitors during the June and July
First Friday art walks, and during regular hours for the duration of the show.

• Harold Davis will speak on “Making the Botanical Photo: The Digital Print
As an Artifact” on June 7. He is the recipient of many photo awards, a Moab
Printmaking Master, and the author of numerous bestselling photography
books, including “Photographing Flowers: Exploring Macro Worlds.”

• This is PHOTO’s second benefit for the San Francisco Botanical Garden.
A percentage of sales will go to support their work in Golden Gate Park.

All accepted works will be shown on PHOTO’s website for at least one year.


Open to all photographic artists in the United States, 18 years of age or older.
Entries must be original work completed in 2010 or later. By entering, the artist
declares that he/she is the unencumbered owner/originator of the images entered.


This is an exhibit of photographic prints. No size limitations, except that
PHOTO reserves the right not to accept cumbersome pieces at any time. When
listing dimensions please use outside dimensions of framed piece, rounded off
to the nearest inch; if your print is not yet framed please estimate the final size;
for any typical frame, please list the depth as zero. Work must be framed/mounted,
and ready to hang when delivered to PHOTO. No video or three-dimensional pieces.

Entry Fee

A non-refundable fee of $35 (up to 3 entries) is required for application.
Additional entries can be included for $5 each image. Online submissions
are not complete until payment is made.


Shipping/Delivery  All accepted entries must be received at PHOTO by
May 10, 2014. Shipped work should arrive in a reusable container with return
postage or prepaid shipping documents and correct return labeling. Hand-
delivered artwork may be dropped off by May 10, 2014, any Thursday, Friday,
or Saturday between noon and 5:30 p.m.

Return of Artwork  Dropped off artwork can be picked up on July 13
or 14 between noon and 5:30 p.m. Please arrange for a representative to pick
up your work if you cannot. Dropped off artwork remaining at the gallery past
the pick-up dates will be stored or disposed of at the gallery’s discretion.
Shipped artwork will be packaged and shipped beginning on July 14.

Sales  All artwork must be available for sale as presented in the gallery.
Artists receive 50% of the sale price for work that is sold.

Agreement/Liability  Artwork accepted for the exhibition will be insured
from the time it is received and inspected by gallery staff until artwork is
tendered to shipper for return to the artist. Delivery and pickup are the
responsibility of the artist. Submission of work constitutes an agreement
to the conditions set forth herein. PHOTO may photograph and reproduce
accepted work for promotional purposes only. Artists may not remove
accepted entries before the close of the exhibition. We will not refund entry
fees or allow changes to any submission after the deadline. Please check
your entry for accuracy.


PHOTO will only accept online entries through the online site Smarter Entry.

1. Prepare your images for upload: JPG, TIF, or PNG files not greater than 2MB.
Longest side should be at least 1280 pixels.

(b) complete payment information then click “purchase competition,”
(c) upload images and complete the brief entry details (title, medium, size, year).

If your image is untitled, please fill the title box with “Untitled” plus a reference
word or number which will not appear anywhere but in the jurying system.
You can save your entry-in-progress and return to edit your information before
the deadline.

4. Payments must be received by the deadline for your entry to be accepted.

Please do not submit materials directly to the gallery. We are not requesting
statements, CVs, or other materials with your submission; these will be requested
later from those accepted into the show. If you need help using Smarter Entry,
please consult their online instructions. PHOTO does not provide technical
assistance for applications.
