Michael Garlington and Jennifer Georgescu
April 2 - May 9, 2015

Artist Reception: April 16, 6:00-8:00pm

Michael Garlington is a photographer and a sculptor. He has built large-scale featured art projects at Burning Man for the past few years. In this exhibit he incorporates sculptural elements in the presentation of fantasy photographic prints as well as one sculptural piece containing small photos. Working with 4 by 5 film, he analyzes the scene and arranges the subjects to elicit the most emotion possible from the subjects.

Jennifer Georgescu’s project, Star Gazers is a 1950s science fiction tale that explores fate, free will, and human identity. She combines found imagery from the past with self-portraits in unique cinematic scenes. These pictures embrace nostalgia for a time when all knowledge was thought to be at our fingertips. But more than that, Star Gazers reveals humanity’s longing to be remembered and appreciated even though we are insignificant in comparison to the universe.

Oakland Art Murmur: First Fridays, April 3 and May 1. Open until 9:00pm
